Our target is to construct functional and safe buildings. Especially, human life lost by destruction of buildings by frequent major earthquakes is a severe issue globally and our research field includes development of technology to reduce such disaster. We propose a new construction system and its associated design methods and structural methods by experimentation and computer simulation, along with methodology of judging earthquake-proof safety by inspection of buildings, and with technology for seismic strengthening.

Many points about earthquake behavior of reinforced concrete remain unknown. We are carrying out research to clarify that point by analysis and experimentation. Additionally, we are interested in concrete produced with recycled aggregate, which has been introduced to construct a healthy circulatory society answering to the strong demand for environment preservation. Furthermore, we are developing structural members of high performance and high durability by extending their life by reducing the damage of steel-reinforced structural concrete elements.

Keiichi INOUE, Senior assistant professor

I am carrying out research on building structure by analysis and experiment. That includes (i) Analytical study of reducing effects on earthquake responses in steel structure permitting the column base’s uplifting, (ii) Development of a model for vibration analysis of structural element using finite element, and (iii) Development of vibration control structure using energy absorbing wing wall. Consequently, my target is to elucidate earthquake response of various types of buildings and to contribute to technological development for reducing earthquake disasters.
